Ice Prince, P Square, May D All Absent At The Headies. What is really happening?

Nigerian artists seem not to be taking the Hip Hop awards, now known as Headies seriously anymore. In the past, almost all the top Nigerian acts would be present in an event like the Headies, especially when they are recipients of awards. Although the Headies brought together all the Nigerian musicians from the 80s and 90s as a way of reunion and letting them know the impact they have made in the music industry and the traces they have left behind with Onyeka Owenu, Oris Wiliki, Mike Okori, Baba Fryo, Sir Shina Peters, Fatai Rolling Dollar, Daddy Showkey, all present; not all nominees and winners were absent at the event. The winner of the Best Album of the year, P Square, winner of the Best RnB single May D, winner of song of the year D’Banj, Mavin crew, winner of Best Rap Album Ice Prince, and African Artiste of the year Sarkodie were all conspicuously absent at the awards. There are no clear indications of an important event that kept the absent artistes away from Headies. Pundits believe the awards might be losing its touch, and that may explain why some artistes felt winning a Headies award wasn’t such a big deal, hence their absence. Ice Prince reports say was in Jos during the awards. What do you think of the awards? Is it as solid as ever, or has it lost its touch?
