UNN Crisis: Goodluck Jonathan urged to intervene
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has been urged to intervene in the crisis rocking the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, following the removal of Dr. Emeka Enejere as Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the university.
National president of the school’s alumni association, Andrew Oru, made the call at a news conference in Abuja, on Friday, describing Enejere’s removal as illegal.
He equally urged the President to order the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Bartho Okolo, over fraud allegation to the tune of N3 billion.

Oru accused the supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, of shielding the Vice-Chancellor.
According to him, Wike illegally removed Enejere as Pro-Chancellor and replaced him with Emmanuel Chukwuka Ukala.
Wike had announced in a statement in Abuja, on Thursday, the removal of Enejere and the appointment of Ukala as his replacement.

A statement signed by Wike’s Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said that the appointments took immediate effect.
The suspension of Enejere as Pro-Chancellor few days ago had sparked off protest in the university.
However, no reason was given for his suspension and eventual removal as the Chairman, Governing Council of the University.
But the UNN Alumni Association said the removal of the Enejere was to stall the process of council’s report that has indicted the Vice-Chancellor of wrongdoings.
The alumni president, therefore, called for the immediate suspension of the Vice-Chancellor to give room for unfettered investigation of his “ fraudulent activities.”
He warned that if within two weeks no action was taken
against the VC, the association would be compelled to take legal or
other actions against the university authority.
