Behind Closed Doors-- President Goodluck Jonathan Meets Northern Leaders
As the country battles with insurgency, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday night met with traditional rulers from the North led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar III, to deliberate on ways to end the sect’s activities in the region.
According to Premium Times reports, the meeting started at about 9:25pm at the First Lady’s Conference Room.
The meeting was attended by the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, Minister of Information, Labaran Maku and other Presidential aides.
The meeting was sequel to the one held by the Northern traditional rulers on Wednesday in Kaduna to also discuss the Boko Haram crises and the economic situation in the North.
Speaking to journalists after the Kaduna meeting, the Sultan had said he would take the opinions and observations of the northern traditional rulers to the president as part of ways of forging stronger alliance with government against terrorism.
The Kaduna meeting was attended by the chairmen of traditional rulers council from each of the 19 Northern states.
An Evangelist and founder of the Igbo Youth Movement and Deputy Secretary Igbo Leaders of Thought, Elliot Uko, had said if the country does not tackle the roots and the cause of insurgency, a group worse than Boko Haram may arise in the future.
