IGP Says--- Road Blocking By Policemen Is A Serious Offence
As against the road blocks still seen on major roads in Nigeria,
the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has made it
known that the order banning the setting up of police road-blocks
nationwide is still in force.
This was reinforced some minutes ago in a statement today by the Force spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who said the IGP had re-issued directive to all commands and formations to the ban of road blocks in the Nigeria. In his words, he said:
“The IGP warned that all semblances
of police road-blocks and permanent check-points reportedly re-emerging
in some parts of the country, especially in the South-East, South-South
and South-West geo-political zones of Nigeria should immediately be
dismantled.
“The IGP who described the trend as a
serious violation of subsisting order on road-blocks warned that severe
sanctions await any command, formation or personnel that violate the
order”.
While speaking, the IGP also charged command Commissioners of Police
and heads of formations to ensure total compliance with the order, making
it known that extensive visibility patrol and effective surveillance on
roads nationwide is in place to replace road blocks. It would be
recalled that just recently, in a clear show of power, the governor of
Kebbi state, Saidu Nasamu Dakingari was said to have slapped a Police
superintendent, who is his aide de camp, Mohammed Umar, publicly.
