Kwara In Confusion Over School's Resumption Date

Kwara In Confusion Over Schools’ Resumption Date

As against recent reports on private and public schools in some parts of Nigeria resuming tomorrow, 22nd of September, confusion has been recorded in Kwara state over the resumption date.

The State which had earlier directed schools to resume tomorrow, Monday, September 22, 2014 in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive according to orders from the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago in a statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesman, Alhaji Fatai Dan Kazeem.
The state however went back on its decision over the resumption date, postponing the resumption of both primary and secondary  indefinitely. The postponement notice was aired on the state radio with a statement from the office of the Commissioner.
It was however noticed that the postponement came just immediately after the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) issued a statement that teachers in the state would not resume on September 22 as directed by the government.
The union said its members would only resume when all provisions to prevent Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) were made by government. The union called on all stakeholders in the education sector to be proactive in tackling the Ebola disease, appealing to government at all levels to use qualified health personnel to train teachers to forestall the outbreak of EVD.
It would be recalled that just recently, following the unending debate over the September 2014, resumption date for schools across the country, the Osun State government announced October 6, 2014, for its resumption.
