Elections May Be Postponed Again For Ballot Reprint As Court Orders INEC To Recognize New Party
A new political party, Young Democratic Party (YDP) is forcing INEC's
hand, having gained the court's permission to compel the electoray body
to recognize the party in the forthcoming elections scheduled to hold no
less than four weeks from now.
YDP has asked INEC to reprint the ballot papers to include YDP for the elections or postpone the polls again.
"The stance of the party may have boosted ongoing efforts to scuttle the forthcoming elections," Sahara Reporters commented.
On Wednesday in Abuja a Federal High Court ordered INEC to recognize YDP and accommodate the party in the coming elections.
YDP's public secretary, Ugo Nwofor, speaking with journalists said INEC “has just two options."
The options, he said, were either reprinting the ballot boxes to include the party or postponing the elections in order to do so.
INEC has withheld comments on this development.
