11 Sure Facts You Should Know About The New Police IG

                              Nigeria has a new Inspector-General of Police. He is Mr Solomon Arase. Aranse, The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), was appointed following the immediate sack of the former IG, Suleiman Abba by President Goodluck Jonathan
Below are 11 things you should know about the new police IG.
1. He is a lawyer: Mr. Aranse holds a Bachelor of Law degree and Masters of Law from the University of Benin and University of Lagos respectively. He attended the Nigerian Law school and was called to the bar in 2000.
2. He has a degree in Political Science: The new IGP graduated with a degree in political science from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1980.
3. He has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.
4. He joined the Nigerian Police in 1981.
5. Mr. Arase was the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom state.
6. Before his recent appointment, he was in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Bureau.
7. He served at the United Nations Mission in Namibia.
8. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.
9. Before his latest appointment, Mr. Arase was head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, which is the apex intelligence gathering arm of the Nigerian police. The Force CID is the only arm of the police that provides Intelligence on Crime and National Security. Its primary functions include investigation and prosecution of serious and complex criminal cases within and outside the Country. The Department also coordinates crime investigations throughout the NPF.
10: He was the Principal Staff Officer to three former IG’s including Mr. Tafa Balogun, Mr. Mike Okiro and Mr. Sunday Ehindero.
11. He served as the Deputy Commissioner in charge PANTI, Lagos.
Suleiman Abba was the 17th indigenous inspector general of police and was appointed by President Jonathan in 2014. He took over from former police inspector general Mohammed Abubakar (Rtd) who had completed 35 years of service.

Report had surfaced in May 2014, that Solomon Arase, may take over from Mohammed Abubakar, as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
