DPO, 4 Other Policemen On Election Duty Injured In Auto Crash (Photos)

                 No fewer than five policemen, includ­ing a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to the Ogun State Police Com­mand, were seriously in­jured yesterday when their patrol vehicle crashed at Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
                  The accident occurred at 9:35 a.m. as the policemen who were on election duty were traveling along the Wasimi axis of the Lagos/Abeokuta expressway.
                An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the police Hilux pick-up van with registration number NPF 8182 C, belonging to the Ewekoro Divisional Po­lice Headquarters somersaulted when its tyres burst at top speed. The vehicle landed on its side on the other lane, having scaled the median and then faced the Lagos axis.
Sunday Sun correspondent gathered that the injured Divi­sional Police Officer identified as Bakare B.O, was posted from Ado-Odo Division to monitor elections in Ewekoro.

He was said to have been seri­ously injured, with his uniform drenched in blood. Another injured policeman was said to have broken one of his legs.

Other policemen involved in the accident were one Ologbese Vincent, Nuhu and two others whose identities could not be as­certained as at the time of filing this report.

An injured police corporal, Oyewole Afolabi was reported to have lamented that the driver of the Hilux who was on high speed must have also dozed off.

The injured policemen were rushed to the hospital by person­nel of other security agencies including the Department of State Security Service, Cus­toms and others.
