PMAN inaugurates new caretaker committee
A recent court judgment upholding Pretty Okafor’s position as PMAN
head notwithstanding, the caretaker committee that brought him to power
has just been dissolved by stakeholders, following a tussle with the
faction of Kelvin Luciano.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had issued contempt charges against those disobeying an earlier ruling, declaring Pretty Okafor as Interim President of the PMAN.
Major opposers of Okafor’s position had filed a counter motion seeking to set aside the ruling, which further heightened the 34 years of different crises of leadership, which
have rendered the association inactive.
But as members of the 45-man committee instituted by the trade union have been battling hard to save PMAN from the factional groups, the committee which represents members from the different fractional groups of PMAN converged at the Planet One, Ikeja, Lagos, penultimate Monday April 6, in order to find a leeway for the union.
In attendance were Charlyboy, Felix Duke, Alex O, Jazman Olofin, Coupa Victory, Ochonma, Brown Bread, and many others.
Rising from the meeting, the PMAN members and some stakeholders expressed dissatisfaction with the current leadership under Luciano and cast a vote of no confidence on him.
Among other resolutions, members averred that following the inability of the caretaker committee to reconcile warring factions and organise credible elections in the past two years, it is not eligible to continue.
They also noted that there were series of financial improprieties as all expenses were never receipted for. They also frowned against the self imposed designation of President by Luciano, instead of being referred to as Chairman.
Members therefore nominated Mr. Innocent Ochonma as new chairman of the committee. Ochonma emerged after former PMAN president, Charlyboy rejected the offer.
