Floyd Mayweather Wins Wide Unanimous Decision Over Manny Pacquiao
Pacquiao got some momentum back in the middle rounds, however, slinging left hands to Mayweather's body and head, and even stunning Mayweather at several points, forcing the defensive virtuoso to cover up against the ropes and weather the storm while Pacquiao slugged away at his body.
Mayweather eventually worked his way back into the fight, using his jab more than he usually does against southpaws, and catching Pacquiao with counter right hands as he came into range.
In the end, Floyd Mayweather ended up cruising to a unanimous decision. This will be a controversial comment--in fact it already is--but I scored the bout in favor of Manny Pacquiao. While acknowledging that the bout was likely closer, and very likely a Mayweather win (there were loads of swing rounds in there), I can't help but call the 118-110 scorecard for Mayweather inexplicably wide. There will likely be much discussion of the scorecards (mine in particular) as we go forward after this momentous occasion, so I'll address it in more detail in the future. But for now, let's celebrate what was a phenomenal buildup, and ultimately an entertaining and memorable fight.
As far as the judges are concerned, Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter of this generation. I don't have a problem with that.
