Sallah: Police ban handbags, weapons in Plateau
Plateau State Police Commissioner, Mr. Nasiru Oki, has directed
residents of the state not to go to prayer grounds with their handbags
and knives during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The police commissioner said the police, in collaboration with other
security agencies, had put in place adequate security measures to
guarantee peaceful celebration.
Oki, who spoke to newsmen in Jos on Tuesday,
asked all residents of the state to go about their legitimate business without fear of molestation.
He explained that handbags would not be allowed into prayer grounds
while vehicles must be parked 300 meters away from prayer venus.
Calling on residents to obey traffic laws, Oki added that security
operatives would screen patrons of amusement parks and other relaxation
centres.
“Throwing of stones or pure water is prohibited, hanging on the body
of vehicles or tricycles is also not allowed. Use of knives or any
dangerous weapons at prayer grounds and after is not allowed.
“The good people of Plateau are enjoined to once again exhibit such
good virtues and conduct during the forthcoming Sallah festivities as
the present fragile peace on the Plateau cannot be toiled with under any
guise,” the police boss said.
