Five people, including a police officer, were injured after a fire broke out on the 50th floor of Chicago’s John HanC0ck Building.
Firefighters and ambulances were called to the 100 storey skyscraper yesterday afternoon to a blaze that had broken out inside a bedroom of a residential apartment.
Footage captured by witnesses on the ground showed thick sm
oke billowing high into the sky, and flames pouring from a window on the side of the building.
It took firefighters an hour and a half to extinguish the fire completely.
The building was not evacuated during the ordeal.
The apartment was destroyed, and residents living on the 50th floor will have to be relocated while repairs are carried out, officials said.
NBC Chicago said the resident who lived in the flat escaped unhurt, and the cause of the fire was accidental.
Five people suffered minor injuries, mostly due to smoke inhilation.
