Dasuki
The
Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, granted a former National
Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, permission to travel abroad
for medical treatment.
The presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, ordered the Federal
Government to release Dasuki’s international passport to enable him seek
treatment abroad.
But, the judge added a caveat, Dasuki must either provide someone
willing to be imprisoned should he fail to return by the next adjourned
date or his lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, should submit a
written undertaking to produce him on that date.
The ex-NSA claimed he is suffering from cancer.
Dasuki, a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army, is standing trial on a
five-count charge of money laundering involving about N84million and
illegal possession of firearms.
He had applied to the court to be allowed to travel to travel to the
United Kingdom, for three weeks to enable him attend to his failing
health. But the prosecution led by the Director of Public Prosecution of
the Federation (DPPF), Muhammad Diri, opposed Dasuki’s application on
the grounds that he could abscond since there was no condition attached
to the bail granted him.
Ruling on the application, Justice Adeniyi Ademola granted Dasuki’s request and dismissed the prosecutions objection.
