Finally, Anambra Governor Reacts To Biafra
Following a Biafra protest in Onitsha, Anambra state that resulted in violence and loss of lives, Governor Willie Obianno has finally reacted to the situation, calling for calm.
The protest which took place on Tuesday, November 1 and reached its peak the following day, Wednesday, November 2 in Onitsha and cham
pioned by some Igbo people under the aegis of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSOB) reportedly claimed the lives of two police officers and three protesters.
The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu has escalated the protests as the agitators called for his unconditional release and a break away from Nigeria.
Daily Post reports that Governor Obianno appealed to IPOB and MASSOB members to keep calm and not allow the state degenerate into lawlessness.
The governor said he would not fold his arms and watch what had earlier seemed like a peaceful protest become uncontrollable.
He said: “As your Governor and the Chief Security Officer of the state, I am compelled to act to avert any likely breakdown of law and order. In all situations, the preservation of human life comes first and I am determined to enforce that.”
He urged the agitators to “resist any attempt by hoodlums to take advantage of the situation and destabilize any part of Anambra state.”
He warned trouble makers who might want to hide under the protests to “keep off as we will not tolerate any breach of peace under any guise or pretence.”
He added: “I, therefore, wish to assure Ndi Anambra and all visitors to the state to go about their normal business peacefully as the security agencies are on top of the situation to preserve law and order,”
Meanwhile, a coalition of Southeast-based rights groups suppose that Radio Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu may be killed like the leader of the deadly Boko Haram sect Muhammed Yusuf.
