Stop Harassing Fayose – Ekiti PDP Elders Tells FG

A group, the Ekiti PDP Elders’ Forum, has accused the Federal Government of harassing and intimidating the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose and top officials of the state government through institutions such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Department of State Security (DSS) among others.
The group, therefore,‎ called on the Presidency to stop such acts in the interest of peace and harmony in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the group in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, former Deputy Governor, Chief Paul Alabi said the latest freezing of the account of Governor Fayose was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
Alabi was supported by former Deputy Governor Sikiru Tae Lawal, Chief Idowu Odeyemi, Chief Afolabi Ojuawo, Chief Mrs Adesoro, Hon. Dele Olugbemi, Dr Jimi Oke, Chief J.O. Ademuwagun, Chief Idowu Faleye among others.
The‎ PDP elders recalled that agents of the Federal Government had earlier invaded the state House of Assembly, abducted a lawmaker, Hon. Afolabi Akanni and detained him for 18 days without being charged to court.
“From all these happenings, it is clear that the APC-led ‎Federal Government is actively using both the DSS and the EFCC and other federal agencies to harass and intimidate Governor Ayodele Fayose for no other reason than raising his voice against what he sees as the illegalities and bad policies of the APC-led Federal Government.
“As elders of the party in Ekiti State, we are very much disturbed at this trend where a sitting governor who enjoys constitutional immunity‎ is being harassed by institutions created by the state for no just cause other than being the voice of the masses,” they said.
They added that democracy would only thrive when the rule of law is allowed to operate.
While noting that the governor had been crying out against plans by the government at the centre to destabilize his government, they pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to face governance and ensure the delivery of dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
