Meek Mill Blasts American Media for Ignoring Reports of Missing Black Girls in DC
Last week, Black Twitter was set ablaze after user @BlackMarvelGirl shared on her page that 8 teenage Black girls had gone missing within the space of 3 days in Washington DC, this month.
Less than 12 hours after the tweet was sent out, it garnered over 35,000 re-tweets, after wh
ich ONLY Essence and Teen Vogue magazines reported the news. Other major news outlets did not (or refused to?) take notice of the report until recently.
Now rapper Meek Mill is calling out the American media for their ‘blatant lack of coverage’ of Black American news.
See what he wrote below.
Prior to Meek’s Instagram post, Comedian D.L Hughley already sparked a heated debate online when he tweeted about the FBI using their resources to help track and find footballer, Tom Brady’s stolen Super Bowl jersey in Mexico.
“If only all those Black and brown teenage girls reported missing in D.C. had jerseys on!” he tweeted.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time the American media will be dragged for racism.
In 2015 and 2016 respectively, the organisers of the Academy Awards were blasted on social media for the glaring absence of Black actors in the nomination lists and the hashtag #OscarsoWhite went viral online.
See what other people are saying on Twitter about the matter:

We hope the girls return home safely just like some of the Chibok girls that were released last year.12 black girls have gone missing in DC in a span of 24 hours and 211 have gone missing there since January, 2017. What the HELL is going on?— lip gallagher stan (@QUEENTIWAA) March 23, 2017
