Our Mission Is To Offer Succour To Igbo's, Nigerians

For the love of humanity, Ndigbo Buru Otu, an Igbo socio-cultural group, is determined  to give help to the helpless, hope to the hopeless and succor to the down and out. With members that cut across every part of Nigeria and beyond, the group is positioned to represent an oasis of  hope in a desert of despair, according to its leaders.

While  some groups grab the headlines for reasons ranging  from
violent agitations to hate speeches, the leaders of the group say they have taken it upon themselves to liberate Nigerians, especially of Igbo extraction from   poverty’s dark cell and give them a shoulder to cry on.

Established about two years ago partly  as a platform for uniting and providing support in every facet of life to Igbo sons and daughters in  Nigeria  and abroad, Ndigbo Buru Otu comprises of young men and women, mostly entrepreneurs, businessmen and traders, who have decided to carry their cross by themselves. And in recent times, the group is according to its leaders,  fast becoming a rallying point for Igbo sons and daughters resident in Lagos and beyond.

Speaking on the essence and activities of the group, Princewill Chigozie, the Vice President of the association, noted that it was not formed for any political cause, stressing that it is a social and charity group set up for members to provide assistance to Igbos, non Igbos and other Nigerians. He says many people and families in the society have been empowered by the group, revealing that it has recently acquired land to build houses to rent at a subsidized rate in Lagos state.
" We formed the association early last year mainly for the Igbos in Nigeria and in diapora if your are an Igbo man married to a Yoruba woman, you are a member. If you are a  Igbo woman married to a Yoruba
man, you are member and we recognise you. The association is to help ourselves it is not a political group.
"We give loan and financial support to members who have problems, we
have members in Brazil who come and  register, and they go, when they come back they join us in our meeting. We also Work with Nigerian police, the former police commissioner in Lagos used to come to our
meeting and give us security tips.”
He added,"We have bought rice we want to give people who are in need this Christmas. We have also bought land to build houses for members to live there and Pay the rent when they have.  We have Cooperative society in the association, and we are not using the group to

Intimidate anyone," Chigozie said. Also speaking on the activities of the association a member Obiageli Christian Alegbu stated that she joined the association because of the need to unite with fellow Igbos in lagos, stressing that it was important to belong to the association because of the several forms of assistance members are bound to enjoy.
" I love what they are doing and as an Igbo woman, I decide to  join the association. You can't be intimidated as Igbo person and as a member if you have problems the chairman would give you brotherly assistance,” Alegbu stressed. In the same vein,a  member,Mrs Joy Madukwe, stated that the
association had put smiles in the faces of several less privileged individuals in the society, stressing that she joined the association because of its support to the needy.

"I joined the association because I found it helpful to the Igbos, not only the Igbos but everyone.
They are solving problems, especially for the less privileged. Igbos in Lagos have accommodation issues, landlords are not admitting Igbo tenants to their houses, and if you buy land, if you don't have back up you may lose it," Madukwe said.
