Igbo Group To Honour Outstanding Police Officers, Nigerians-- Iniobong Iwok
Igbo Socio-cultural group, Indi Igbo Buru Otu, world wide,
is set to honour 40 outstanding police officers who have distinguish
them self in the force, while other Nigerians who have also excelled in
different fields would also be honoured at the group end of the year
party and award night on 9th December.
President of the group Chief Chika Nwokedi stated this in a
chat with newsmen in Lagos, noting that the group decided to honour
the officers due to their dedication and exemplary character they had
shown in the course of discharging their duties.
Nwokedi said though their were some bad egg in the force,
several police officers were working assiduously to keep the country
safe inspite of limited equipment and facilities.
He said the group would also award the wife's of the
officers with several ranged of gifts, stressing that the award was the
group way of appreciating the effort of the force in maintaining peace
and unity in the country.
He said" We are honouring outstanding 40 men and women of
the Nigerian police force,while Nigerians who have distinguish
themselves in their chosen field would also be honoured. We are also
going to award different ranged of gifts to the wife of this officers".
"There may be some bad egg in the force, but there are
several men of the police force doing excellently well working day and
night to keep the country safe inspite of their poor salary. We are
honouring them with our money, not government money. In the past we have
been donating different equipment to the police force".
Meanwhile members of the group have called for the unity of
the country and sustenance of prevailing peaceful climate, they advised
any one with agitation to embrace dialogue, stressing that crisis and
conflict had not developed and sustained any society.
Speaking in separate interview, the members urged leaders
at all level to deliver on it campaign promises to alleviate the
suffering of Nigerians.
"What we need is peace, that is what would only move us
forward, what ever agitation any one or group have let them embrace
dialogue. Our leaders should also try and deliver on their campaign
promises, the suffering in the land is too much". A member Chief Chris
Ude said.
