2 Die In Niger Celebrating Buhari’s Victory
The governor who has congratulated David Umaru who defeated him in the Niger east senatorial election told newsmen in Minna yesterday that he imposed curfew to avert waste of lives over the celebration of the election victory.
Saying quite a number of people were also injured while celebrating, he thought the imposition of the curfew would remedy the situation, he added.
Aliyu who said he had accepted defeat in the last election, pointing out that the performance of his party, PDP in the state had further strengthened it to go back to the drawing board and re-strategize for the governorship and state assembly elections.
He said “I have already conceded defeat to Barrister David Umaru. I have called Umaru’s number after he was declared about seven times but he did not pick.
I sent a text saying ‘this is the Chief Servant calling, please pick’ and I have not received a reply by now.I have no qualms about the defeat. I did not see my defeat as an insult to my person but as God’s will.”
He said that the last presidential and National assembly elections in the country has added value to the entrenchment of future election in Nigeria and appreciated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for paying attention to details, Aliyu said the electoral body should appreciate the shortcomings in the election and work towards correcting it.
