Why my world ranking dropped – Quadri
A
dissatisfy Aruna Quadri has attributed his recent slump majorly in the
latest ITTF ranking to his inability to feature at the German Open.
The Portugal-based ITTF Star Player told TheNationSport
that for not making it to the German as well as his poor performance
this year in the ITTF World Tour may have caused the slide, but believes
with more hardwork, he would return to the top.
“I
wanted to play the German Open because that is one of the biggest World
Tours in the ITTF calendar but I played a lot of matches at the Lagos
Open and this made me to be tired. After the final of the Lagos Open, I
had informed the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (
NTTF) to cancel my
registration before the draw for the German Open. Unfortunately this was
not done on time and I was drawn in the tournament. This was what
caused me penalty of 25 points and this was deducted from my ranking
points for the month of March,” he said.
He further added that loosing
some matches from the beginning of the year till the moment caused his
ranking position to drop. “There is big possibility of maintaining my
position as well, provided that the 25 penalty points was not deducted
and the little points I won at the Lagos Open was enough to make me
remain in 32 spot in world ranking. But this will surely ginger me to
continue to work hard,” he said.
In the March released on April 1 by the world table tennis ruling body, Quadri dropped
from 31 to 38 Egypt’s Omar Assar, who defended his title at the 2015
Lagos Open also plummeted in his rating as the north African star
dropped from 37 to 41.
Meanwhile,
China’s Ma Long retained his number spot in the Men’s World Rankings.
It is the 32nd occasion, when the monthly listings have been issued,
that the 26 year-old Chinese has been ahead of the field; he first rose
to the elevated position in January 2010.
