Getting small change can be a difficult and it usually causes problem when paying for transport. Commuters in Lagos try to get small denomination before getting into a boss. If a driver or conductor specifies that you have your change before boarding, it is better to comply or inform the driver if you don’t have change. If you give the driver N1000 note and indicate that you want to alight along the way thereby forcing the driver to start looking for change this can infuriate other passengers and you don’t want to be at the receiving end of insults from irate passengers.

Say Lagos Is Not Special After all

Lagosians cherish their city and don’t take any insult directed at the city lightly. Some people come to Lagos with extra ordinary expectation of the city and sometimes, what they get does not equal their gargantuan expectation. It is better to keep this sentiment to yourself because if you voice it, you are likely to get a negative reaction from Lagosians who might likely advise you to go back to where you came from.

Food is one of the expensive commodities in Lagos and this should not be a surprise since the city is not an agricultural settlement and most food produce come from other towns. If you go to a market in Lagos and complain to the seller that the food produce is expensive and that it is actually cheaper where you come from, this can make the seller. You might be advised to go back to where you come from and bring the supposedly cheaper produce. If you face a Lagosians with a sharp tongue, you might be advised to begin your own farming in your room and consume it (This might be accompanied by a long hiss).

Preach That Lagos Girls Will Go To Hell

It is not uncommon to find preachers in strategic positions in Lagos preaching and telling about how to live moral lives. Common places where they select are bus stops or markets where they can find a lot of people. One topic that can raise hell is if the preacher starts to discuss the immoral dressing of Lagos ladies and how they might likely land in hell if they do not desist. This is a dangerous topic as it is likely to find ladies in skimpy dressing who are also around. There are also some men who might find the topic unreasonable and if the preacher is not careful, he might be the one at the receiving end of a fierce lecture from angry Lagosians.

Engage In A Loud Phone Conversation

It is courteous to be wary of people around when engaged in phone call so as not to disturb them. Lagosians take offence when a person engaged in a phone conversation makes it look like he is conversing with someone who is deaf. While the reaction by not elicit a verbal reaction, the looks of disdain is likely to burn someone with the toughest skin.

This grudging visit to the bank might soon transform to anger if someone for whatever reasons jump the queue to transact. The general reaction from other persons on queue can make the person die with shame. Even if the person is a familiar customer at the bank and the bankers are ready to give the person favour, the reaction will be the same ad if not properly managed can result in an uproar.

Lagosians don’t find it funny when their electricity cable is disconnected because of debt. That is why it is usually a big issue when officials come around to disconnect cables and occupants are at home. The situation can be worse if there is electricity at that particular time and the thought of disconnecting power is enough to make the average Lagosian go mad. Officials are aware of this and sometimes carry out this operation with security men present.

Nab A Pick Pocket

Lagos is for the smart but pickpockets have proved to be smarter in the way they steal money and belongings without raising suspicion. Many people have lost their mobile phones and wallets due to the operation of sleek pick pockets. If a pickpocket is spotted or nabbed, the reaction from Lagosians is usually one of frenzy and a desire to teach the pickpocket a not-to-be-forgotten lesson. It might even require the intervention of security operatives to prevent bloodshed or jungle justice.
