Anti-Insurgency War: Five Boko Haram Partners Arrested
Five people suspected to be affiliated with the militant group- Boko Haram, have been been arrested by Senegalese security operatives.
Officials said the five were arrested last month in the suburbs of Senegal’s capital Dakar and the central town of Kaolak, more than 2,500km from the I
slamist’s heartland in northeastern Nigeria.
A senior justice ministry official told Reuters: “We believe those arrested have ties with Boko Haram.”
The official added that a judge charged them on Friday, November 6, with alleged relations with a terrorist organisation, financing of terrorism and money laundering.
Experts say the arrest is a development that could mark a significant expansion of the movement’s operations especially within the West African region.
It was reported last week, that a Muslim preacher was arrested in the southern town of Kolda on charges relating to statements he had made during sermons.
Meanwhile, in contrast to claims by the jihadist based within the northeastern region of Nigeria, recent investigations show that the sect is in no way linked to the international terrorist group- the Islamic State (ISIS).
