Israel uncovers terror network in West Bank
The
Israeli military said security forces arrested 24 Palestinians in the
West Bank overnight in an operation uncovering a terror network.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had arrested members of a
“vast Hamas network” in the Palestinian city of Qalqilia in the
northwestern West Bank.
It said the arrests were carried out in a joint operation by t
he
Israeli military, the Shin Bet security agency and the Israeli police.
The Israeli military said in a statement that the network was
directed, guided and funded by members of Hamas headquarters in Qatar
and the Gaza Strip.
The statement added that the heads of the network, which ran the
regional headquarters, were operating to renew Hamas activity in the
area and plotting terror activity.
The army said that during the operation, security forces seized 9,000 dollars.
Israel and the U.S. view Hamas as a terror organisation.
Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in 2007, whereas the Fatah movement is the Palestinian sovereign in the West Bank territories.
