PDP Restrategises Ahead Of 2019 Elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 53-man committee as part of its strategies to rebrand the party.
The committee headed by Dr Raymond Dokpe
si, chairman of African
Independent Television (AIT), was given the mandate to help the main
opposition party sustain its democratic ideals.
During the inauguration of the committee in Abuja, Uche Secondus, the
acting national chairman of the party announced that the party’s
stakeholders conference will take place on Thursday November 11, 2015.
According to the acting chairman, the stakeholders’s forum would be
an opportunity for the national working committee of the party to
receive the report of a post election review panel headed by the deputy
Senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
There are fears that the activities of the ruling party All
Progressives Congress (APC) in the last six months may threaten the
landmarks achieved by the erstwhile ruling party. Hence, Secondus
emphasisied that it is imperative for all concerned stakeholders to be
part of the forum.
“This national conference is meant to fashion out strategy that
would help PDP sustain democratic ideals while in opposition, hence the
choice of the conference theme, “PDP and the Sustenance of Democratic
Ideals in Nigeria,” he said.
Secondus also reiterated that the national conference driven from the
PDP Constitution would provide room for reconciliation, mobilisation
and a means of educating critical stakeholders of the party on the
reform programmes being pursued by the national leadership.
“The conference can be used to re-engineer the ideals, core
values and principles of the PDP, as bequeathed to us by our founding
fathers,” he said.
Dokpesi promised the committee will ensure that the desire of the party is achieved through the conference.
Other members of the committee include the former Senate president
and deputy Senate president, Senators Ken Nnamani and Ibrahim Man¬tu.
