Heavy Security Presence As Disabled People Shut Down Busy Aba Road In Port-Harcourt. Photos
The group identified itself as The Joint National Association of
People With Disabilities, Bayelsa State Chapter has shutdown the Niger
Delta Development Commission, NDDC axis of the ever busy Aba Road in
Port Harcourt, Rivers State, South-South, Nigeria, paralyzing vehicular
movements, resulting to a heavy traffic gridlock in the State Capital.

According to the group, the action is due to the total neglect of
persons with disabilities by the NDDC and other agencies of government
in the country.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, they said, the Physically
Challenged persons in Bayelsa State has repeatedly written to the NDDC
head office in Port Harcourt, notifying it of the upcoming National
Disability Day Celebration on 3rd December with a demand of N7m,

Guiding chains for the blind,
Hearing aides for the deaf, among other things, which the commission has refused to acknowledged.

Over 400 Physically Challenged persons from Bayelsa State are
presently on ground since Yesterday and has effectively shutdown the
entire office of the commission and its adjourning roads, preventing
passage of vehicles.

As at writing this report, the management of the commission’s board
is meeting with the leadership of the group in the conference room of
the office building while the entire Aba Road within the office is still
locked down.
The position of the group is clear;
Until the commission respond to their demands, its office and all adjourning roads remain closed.
