Trigger-Happy Soldiers Cause Pandemonium In Yola

 

A wild uproar has been recorded in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state.

The pandemonium was said to have been as a result of some soldiers on patrol who shot into the air few metres from the Federal College of Education, FCE, in Yola.
The shot was said to have scared away many students of the institution and other passers-by, making everyone to run for safety. Witnesses from the event made it known
that the soldiers who shot into the air were part of the troops drafted to fight insurgents in the Northern parts of Adamawa state that have been rocked by insurgency for nearly two months.
One of the victims who is an injured pedestrian, Garba Musa, told newsmen saying: “We had to run for our lives, fearing that Boko Haram are again on the loose. He added that several people, particularly female students who were about to enter the college, got injured while scampering for their lives.
Also, another victim, Sani Daji, said that he was about to board a bus when he heard sporadic gunshots. He further said that the gun shots got many frightened which made them to be injured while trying to scramble for a safe place.
“See how our vehicles are now damaged, and no one among the soldiers could deem it fit to say sorry, they just zoomed-off. Only in Nigeria will you see security operatives firing shots unprovoked. “They are just trigger happy,” said Lawal Garba, whose Honda Accord vehicle was damaged.
However, the Public Relation Officer of FCE, Yola, Bashir Abdullahi, confirmed the event saying that soldiers went on a shooting spree, adding that it happened close to the college.
Although efforts to talk to Mr Jafaru Nuhu who is the Army spokesperson proved abortive, the college spokesperson also confirmed the event saying: “Yes, we heard that during their show of force, there were shots into air by soldiers but I cannot confirm whether there was loss of lives”. It would be recalled that just recently, as the Federal Government continues to wage war against terrorism in Nigeria, the Catholic church in Nigeria has announced that no fewer than 25 towns are under the outlawed Islamist group Boko Haram in northern Nigeria.
