Unknown Gunmen Attack Police Station In Kogi State

Unknown gunmen on Sunday, September 21 stormed Adogo Police station in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, carrying dynamites with the intention of stealing arms from the armoury, Punch reports.

According to a statement released on Monday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, the heavy dynamite launched by the gunmen, demolished and set fire on part of the station.
At about 2100hrs of September 21, 2014, unknown gunmen unleashed heavy attack on Adogo Police Station, in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, from different directions of Okene, Ajaokuta, and one other route, apparently desirous of carting away Police arms,” the statement said.
The assailants were however repelled by policemen on duty who evacuated the arms successfully from the station.
Some of the gunmen were said to have escaped with bullet wounds but no casualty was recorded by the policemen on duty.
The police said the area has been reinforced while frantic efforts are ongoing to track-down the fleeing gunmen.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the mufti-clad hoodlums swooped on the station and met stiff resistance from the police and military reinforcement from Lokoja, adding that heavy gunfire was heard from the direction by 8.30pm.
The police therefore appealed to members of the public, to report anybody seen with bullet wound, to the nearby Police Station or other security agencies.

The tension in the north eastern part of the country has continued to increase following the activities of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, gunmen and clashes between Fulani herdsmen and the farmers.
Last week, gunmen reportedly killed about 50 people in an attack launched on three Fadan-Karshi villages of Sanga Local Government of Kaduna State.
Meanwhile, Fulani herdsmen on September 14, 2014, reportedly attacked Tunari village in Wukari Local Government of Taraba State, killing no fewer than twenty persons and injuring scores of others.
