WAR in Nigeria- The Battle Continues.. Olamide, Desmond,Toke and others joins the Fight.

Rape in Nigeria is becoming rampant, on daily basis we hear news of 54-year old man rapes 12-year old girl, 32 year old rapes 18-year old, gang rape and many others, this is the more reason why the battle against rape needs to be won by walking against rape in Nigeria.
The fifth edition of Walk Against Rape has once more gotten the nod of the Lagos State Ministry Of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Various celebrities such as Kate Henshaw, Monalisa Chinda, Toke
Makinwa, Desmond Elliot, Joseph Benjamin, Ini Edo, Omobaba, Emmanuel Ikubese (Mr. Nigeria), Gbemi Olateru-Olabegi, Iyanya, Emma Nyra, Mercy Aigbe, Iyabo Ojo, Kemi Akindoju, among others have also endorsed the walk and showed great interest to participate.

Walk Against Rape Campaign is a special demonstration that brings together mothers, fathers, guardians, teachers, youth advocates, social activists, actors, actresses, sports men, media practitioners, musicians, DJs, comedians, youth organizations and student delegates from various higher institutions and secondary schools around Lagos to lend a voice to sexually abused persons (particularly women and children), and also show their support to the cause of bringing an end to RAPE in Nigeria, where the number is on the increase.

According to the Project Coordinator, Esther Ijewere- Kalejaiye, “Our aim is to help in encouraging victims to speak out and reduce the stigmatization attached to the victims of sexual abuse and rape as well as use “Walk Against Rape” as a platform to inform the society about the soaring scourge of sexual abuse, especially as it relates to young girls and women in general.
.

We intend achieving a lot more with the campaign this year as we would be having a three- month sensitization workshop on College Acquaintance Rape Education (C.A.R.E) in partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) for young people of secondary and primary school age to educate and sensitize them on rape and encourage them to speak up. The workshop kicked off on the 18th of February 2015 with Desmond Elliot, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Mr. Ade Ipaye and a host of other stakeholders in attendance. Aside the celebrities that are attending the walk, invitations have also be sent to non-governmental organizations, representatives from different local governments in Lagos State, media practitioners, entertainment stars, students etc.

The walk is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, March 10, in commemoration of the International Women’s Day. The convergence point is the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Church ground, GRA Lagos, by 8am.

Walk against Rape is organized by Rubies Ink Initiative.
