Military, civilians repel Boko Haram’s attack in Maiduguri
It was yet a horrible long night for Maiduguri residents in Bornu
State as suspected Boko Haram insurgents lunched another daring attack
to invade the state capital on Friday night.
Reports indicate that it took a resistant combined fire-power of military and youth vigilantes (Civilian JTF) to successfully repel the advancing attackers.
Eye-witnesses and security sources said the insurgents were advancing from Koshebe village in Mafa town, located about seven kilometres towards Zabarmari
in Jere Local Government Area with superior fire-power before the military kept them abbey.
At the time of filling this report, details of the casualty figure were still uncertain and sketchy.
An eye-witness, Maimala Shehu however informed that he saw youth vigilantes members conveying both dead bodies and injured victims apparently to the hospital.
Jere Local Government Area is largely engross in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council having been carved out of the MMC.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that scores of people have been feared dead and many others injured in two separate attacks on Friday evening in Bama town and Koshebe village of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
This latest attacks came just a day after similar incidents in Kukawa,Monguno, Malari in Konduga and Miringa town of Biu Local Government Area claimed over two hundred lives.
Bama town is recently recaptured from the hands of insurgents while Koshebe,a village situated in Mafa on the eastern part is just few kilometers away from the State Capital.
Attempts by our Correspondent to get the Military authorities in Maiduguri speak on the incidents failed due to poor telecommunications services in the State.
Indications are that the State Governor, Kashim Shettima will be visiting one of the affected areas Saturday morning.
